Teaching and learning
Schools around the world are using the Cambridge Primary programme to develop thinking skills and a global mindset in students from a young age.
One such school is The Galaxy School - Wadi in India. Teachers there use the Cambridge Primary materials to design learning modules that are relevant to the local context, but also incorporate a wide world view.
'Cambridge Primary aligns well with our philosophy to nurture individual growth through a curriculum that integrates principles and values with 21st century life skills,’'says Ms Varsha Rana, Principal. 'Learners develop skills such as observation, critical thinking, investigation and collaboration, and also become more independent and reflective. This ensures that learning is never dependent on textbooks or teachers alone, but becomes an intrinsic habit.'
Students and teachers clearly agree. 'My school is like a small village,’ says Grade 5 student Tanmay Chirag Jhala: 'I love learning through games, books, movies and interactions.' While Grade 6 student Vaidehi Jignesh Ramani reports feeling more confident and able to 'engage people in lively conversations, all possible through my learning here'.
Grade 7 Maths teacher Hitesh Jain says Cambridge Primary develops thinking skills through exploration and hands-on work, 'helping students gain a better understanding of concepts, with a focus on developing critical thinking skills, persistence and problem solving abilities'. Purvi Kharsani, Grade 6 English Language and Literature teacher, also welcomes the emphasis on professional development, with opportunities for 'online and face-to-face training and interaction with the wider teaching community across the globe'.
Overall, says Ms Varsha Rana, the Cambridge programme improves student and teacher performance, and prepares students for the next step in their education: 'It builds a strong foundation of skill sets and attributes,' she says, 'which in turn helps learners progress seamlessly into Cambridge Secondary 1 and Cambridge IGCSE courses.'
