Cambridge has launched a first-of-its-kind climate literacy programme in India designed to help students develop climate awareness and become engaged in climate and sustainability issues. Called Cambridge Climate Quest, the programme is a 2.5 hour free online course that Cambridge is making available to all learners enrolled in all educational boards. The ambition is for Cambridge Climate Quest to reach 50,000 learners across 500 schools across the country.
Cambridge Climate Quest has been developed for learners in Years 8 to 12 by Cambridge University Press & Assessment in partnership with Cambridge Zero, the University of Cambridge’s major climate change initiative. The programme aligns closely with India’s National Curriculum Framework for school education, and learning modules have been designed to create an engaging experience during which students can track their progress with periodic assessments. The programme also includes customisable project work to encourage hands-on learning. Students receive a certificate awarded by Cambridge University Press & Assessment and Cambridge Zero when they complete the programme.
Highlighting the new initiative, Christine Özden, Global Director of Climate Education at Cambridge University Press & Assessment, said: 'Cambridge Climate Quest aims to empower young learners with foundational climate literacy and facilitate awareness and action. We're excited to collaborate with schools and educators across South Asia, fostering a collective effort to empower learners in building a sustainable future.'
Rod Smith, Group Managing Director for International Education at Cambridge University Press & Assessment, said: 'Cambridge Climate Quest shows our commitment to developing a generation of global citizens who are not only well-versed in climate issues but also empowered to drive positive change in their schools and communities. This programme is not just a curriculum, it's a transformative experience that integrates seamlessly into educational frameworks, ensuring a meaningful and lasting impact.'
